My Goals 2014
1.Learn to count to 100. 2. Write stories (6 sentences). (My goal was 4. It is now 6 sentences 22/5/14) 3. Learn new apps on the ipad for reading.
November/December
We have been very busy with the 4th term activities. -We had a Survivor day, related to our term Inquiry “Survival.” We did relays like Crossing the Road, In the City, Water Safety , Mountain safety etc. The tamariki loved them. Thanks to Sally from Sports HB for lending us all the equipment for 2 afternoons. -We have still been learning with Maths and Writing and Reading. Some children have made amazing progress. A writing focus is on my teacher registration wiki, as it was one of my classroom goals for the year. -We started swimming again in the school pool. All the children are water confident except for one. -We attended the Hakinakina Athletics day at the HB Sports Park against 7 other schools. Some children got placed in their age group. -We all rode in a Double Decker bus to Cornwall park, where we fed the ducks , looked at the birds, \played in the playground and had a swim on the Splash pad. -Miharo joined the Preschool for their Xmas party at Inflatable World which they really enjoyed. - Lots of tamariki got trophies at Prizegiving. -The most amazing event though was our trip to Haumoana Zoo. This was again related to our Inquiry, the focus being on Survival and animals. The children fed the lambs, brushed the donkey, said Hello to the talking Cockatiel, led a Llama around the zoo , held rats and guinea pigs and saw 35 different animals and birds. To top it all off they had a fun playground too. -The tamariki have been involved in lots of educational activities and learning as well as outdoor education experiences too. What a busy and fun term it has been. Only the school Disco to go. ( Mrs Bennett)
I liked Cornwall Park and swimming on the Splash pad.It was fun. I fed the ducks bread too. The best thing was holding the rat and feeding the lambs at the Haumoana Zoo. We fed them to help them survive. I got the Junior Boys Academic Trophy at Prizegiving. I can read up to Level 17 now and write over a page of my own story. I can spell lots of the words by myself. I am really good at Maths and art too. (Sean)

We can have fun while learning
We went to the A and P show. We had lots of fun there and learnt lots of things. We went to the Farmyard zoo and got to hold and pat lots of baby animals. We went on the rides and found them exciting. It was hard to eat up all our hotdog and drink our drink as they were big. We watched the Ronald MacDonald show. He remembered us from when he came to our school. He was funny and nice to us. We loved Mr Mac and Doug the Digger. Some of us had turns on making the Digger go at the show. At school 2 days before he let us all climb in his big truck. (Room 2 Student Voice)
I liked Ronald MacDonald at the show. He made me laugh and he got us to take photos with him. He did lots of things like playing jokes and talking to Grimace (Sean)

Goals
1. I can count to 100 most of the time now. Sometimes I leave numbers out. 2. I can write longer stories now. Sometimes I can write 6 or more sentences. 3. I am learning new apps for reading on the ipad all the time.
The Arts
We have been talking about the Arts in Inquiry. We know that there are 4 Arts that we do. These are Dance, Drama, Visual Arts such as Crayon and Dye and painting and Music. We have been doing lots of singing. We sing waiata at Assembly every day and in class. Mrs Bennett puts the songs up on a data projector and we sing the words and listen to them on the ipad. We also use instruments as well. We kani kani in class and at lunchtimes, when the music is on. We have been doing lots of visual Art such as crayon and dye, shape pictures, collage, painting, masks and pattern pictures as well as Maori Art. We also learnt the Legends of Maui and the North Island and Maui and the sun, as well as fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. We had turns saying them back to the class and the preschool. We used finger puppets too. (Class) I liked doing the monster picture best. My monster has a big nose. I also liked making the picture with the funny people from the magazine.(Sean)
Writing
I have been learning to write better stories. I want to learn to write and spell all my own words. I use a dictionary or word cards or alphabet cards to help me with words. I am learning to fix up my spelling My stories are getting better all the time. I like writing stories now.(Sean) I have been encouraging Sean to write longer stories and to start editing the spelling as well as check his story through, by rereading it ,to see if it makes sense. He still needs to learn where to put full stops. Sean's stories have improved a lot and are fluent. Next I will encourage him to keep editing his work. (Mrs Bennett)

Duffy Theatre
The Duffy Theatre was awesome. It was funny with lots of things happening. They go to 250 schools around the country. Duffy’s Uncle didn’t like reading but Rose and Duffy got him to read a book and that helped him with his Rugby League game and he scored the winning goal. ( Mrs B) I liked watching the Duffy Theatre and I got a book for doing well at Reading and Writing.(Sean)
Commonwealth Games
We studied the Commonwealth Games when they were on. They were in Scotland in Glasgow. We looked at the Opening and Closing Ceremony on the computer. We all chose a country. Tamihana got the most medals. His team was England. We all liked the swimming and the Cycling. We got lots of medals in the cycling. We talked about all the different sports and practised playing games and sports at school.

Matariki 30/6/14 - 3/7/14
It was another amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school 2014. We started Monday with a whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day, that was lots of fun, with Paki Paki and Whare Tapere schools. Wednesday we had a Nanny and Papa day .Miharo had 11 Nannys and Papas visiting our room. Some also helped us to prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were great with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, stalls and other schools and people and whanau as well as Mayfair Kindegarten visiting. We had Camberley, Hastings Intermediate and Karamu perform as well. Henare OKeefe was DJ for part of the morning. The hangi was a highlight with Dads, Koros and whanau helping out. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

Learning
I am learning to read harder books. I am up to Level 11 now. I used to be at Level 6 at the beginning of the term. I can still write 4 sentences. I need to learn to write longer stories and do 6. That is one of my goals. I am learning lots of new apps to help me with my reading and writing and Maths. I can count to over a 100 sometimes and I want to learn to add bigger numbers. I like PMP. Whaea Diane is cool. We do lots of cool things. (Sean) I am supporting and motivating Sean with his reading and writing. He needs to build more self confidence. He is capable of writing longer stories. His reading comprehension and word solving are improving. He reads more for meaning now. Next we want to improve his reading levels and motivate him to produce longer stories independently. (Mrs Bennett)

Miharo Learning (Literacy and Numeracy)
I am learning to spell words on the alphabet grid. I can spell lots of words. I use them in my stories. I want to learn more words too. I like listening to Mrs Donaldson come and read us stories. She works in the library. (Sean) Sean likes spelling words on the alphabet grid and is quick at findingthe letters when we play alphabet bingo. Mrs Donaldson, the librarian comes in just before lunch Mon to Thurs to read 2 stories to the children. Sean enjoys these and always listens well. (Mrs Bennett)
Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I didn't know how to skip. I can do over 10 skips now. I want to learn to run and skip and do ski jump like Boyden. ( Sean) The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme. Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now. The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping such as ski jump and bell jump. Most children can run around the court skipping. One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks. On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon for the children and whanau. Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon. The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)

Goals
I am learning to read harder books and do more reading apps. I can count to over 100 sometimes. I can write 3 sentences. ( Sean) I support Sean by helping him develop his reading skills and the reading apps on the ipad. He is in a small reading group of 3 so has a lot of individual attention. He has moved up 2 reading levels this term so far. Sean has also improved his counting skills in Maths. Next Term he will move to the next classroom for Maths grouping. Next term we will extend his writing goal to more than 4 sentences as he can write 3 sentences already. (Mrs Bennett).
Walking Safely
Constable Phil is teaching us to walk safely. We are learning to cross the road safely. We know where to stand and know parts of the road such as the kerb and the gutter.
Duffy Role Model Assembly
We had Diana Queenin as our Duffy Role Model. She talked about Dinosaurs and showed us fossils. She also told us how important it is to read to helpour learning. The children loved the Duffy books that they chose.
ipads
I built a school with Boyden on the ipad. It shows where we learn things. I had to match the shapes and the size. (Sean) As part of our Geometry unit in Maths the children had to build either a school or a house in pairs. They had to use attributes such as shapes,pattern,direction,size and colour. The children worked well together and enjoyed the activity. ( Mrs Bennett)

Storywriting/ Masks
Sean My mask has eyes. My mask is cool. Sean selected the mask on the ipad that he wanted to have a photo with. He wrote about it and we published his caption and put the pictures on the classroom wall. The objective was to stimulate the children's imaginations. I encouraged him to think about what mask looked bright and scary. He liked the eyes on this mask best. (Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting
I wrote a story about Harold in the truck. I spelt some of the words myself and used the dictionary too. I am getting better at writing stories and I want to learn to write 4 sentences now.(Sean) I encouraged Sean to spell some of his own words. He knew quite a few and I helped him with truck. He got Harold and Life Education from the Modelling book. He attempted giraffe by himself. When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great" words that they have attempted well or spelt or located for themselves. (Mrs Bennett)
Life Education
I liked Harold the puppet. We learnt about VIP and healthy food. I made the light go on Tam. It was her puku. Whaea Anne said I was magic. Harold was really a puppet. ( Kauri) The children all enjoyed the Life Education Trust visit with Whaea Anne. We studied VIP ( Very Important Person), which we talk about in class as we have a VIP each week. We also learnt about healthy food and the important things that we must do to keep our bodies healthy. Two weeks later the children are still able to name and discuss what we talked about. School Swimming Sports
I liked the school swimming sports. We had races and I can put my head under now. I can kick a little bit with a flutter-board now. (Sean) I took daily swimming lessons with the children and taught them water confidence. All children could get in and put their head under. Some could sit on the bottom. Most can now kick with a flutter-board. All can blow bubbles and kick at the side of the pool. It has been rewarding to see how much the class has increased in water confidnce and skills. I have assessed the children according to the Swim Safe evaluation sheet. ( Mrs Bennett)

Swimming
I can put my head under the water sometimes now. I can walk with a flutter-board across the pool. I want to learn to kick with one.(Sean) Sean rarely brings his togs and is not confident in the water. Last season he would not even go in beyond sitting on the side or the steps. He has developed a little more confidence and I am encouraging him to extend his skills and confidence further. ( Mrs Bennett)
Bike Track
I can ride fast on a bike now around the track. I can also go on the PUMP track slowly round the low hills. I want to get better at that.( Sean) I give Sean lots of opportunities to practise his skills. He needs lots of encouragement on the PUMP track , as he can lack confidence. He is a lot better now though ( Mrs Bennett)
Sue Putt Dental Therapist
Nurse Sue came to show us how to clean our teeth with some big teeth and a big toothbrush. She also brought us all a free toothbrush and some tooth paste for us to clean our teeth after lunch each day. Its called the "Brush In" programme in schools.

We made up 5 class rules. I am showing the 4th one with Te Iwi. He is my friend. "We be nice to others." (Sean) We made up class rules. Sean modelled one of our rules. He could tell me what it means ( Mrs Bennett)

Activities
We have had a busy 2 months. We have had a Biathlon where we ran and biked. We have started Milk in Schools. It is yummy. The whole school went in the Kapa Haka festival. It was fun when we went to Beach Education. We all loved swimming in the sea and playing in the sand on the beach. We have been talking about Pay it Forward in Inquiry. Room 2 have been helping our whanau by being nice and doing things for them. Our Christmas party in Room 2 was the best fun. We played games and had presents and lots of yummy party food. Khani won the pass the parcel. Miharo is fun. Miharo is awesome. ( Mrs Bennett)

Preschool Tuakana- teina
We love to have the Preschool visit us . They have a story with us and we play together. We help them with things and show them where things are. They like coming to see us all in Room 2 as well.
PMP
We have Diane come and take PMP with us. She is from Flax Rock. We have fun and learn lots of different ways to move with our bodies. We get fit too. I like doing all the exercises best.
Ronald McDonald
Ronald McDonald came to talk to us about road safety. We knew the song about Stop Look and Listen as we had learnt that in class with Mrs Bennett. Ronald McDonald was funny. He lost his sock . We had to help him find it. He made Mrs Bennett disappear and then come back again but she was really just behind the screen. She jumped out and gave us a surprise. I laughed at Ronald McDonald and Mrs Bennett.

Discovery Making Poi T3
I am making poi. Mrs Bennett helped me do it. I sang a song. (Sean) I assisted Sean by first showing him how to make the poi, by putting newspaper into a plastic bag. I had to show him how to screw the newspaper up into a ball as he had put too much in the bag at first. I then showed him what length to cut the wool. I helped him tie it. He then sang E Rere taku poi in time to the music with the other children. Sean was using his thinking and problem solving skills as well as developing his hand eye co-ordination skills. Dynamo Dukebox
I loved doing the Rock and Roll best. Kauri was my partner. It was cool. (Sean)
The tamariki were amazing. They danced and sang their way through nearly an hour of music from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Even the teachers line danced to Achy Breaky Heart and were zombies toMichael Jackson's Thriller. Miharo Roll n Rolled to music from the 1980's. They did I love Rock and Roll. The lion Sleeps Tonight and Dancing in the Street. What a wonderful performance. ( Mrs Bennett)

Matariki 1/7/13- 5/7/13
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school. We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school. That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls and other schools and people and whanau visiting. We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers. Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc. The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

I read my story to Mrs Bennett I went to Sk8zone.(Sean) I supported Sean to write two simple sentences. When questioned he found it difficult to extend his story. I will work on this with Sean to help improve his oral language. ( He is ESOL and speaks Samoan at home). At present he does 'Talk to Learn' with Cheyden and Whaea Debz. I will also support him with his written stories building up his writing vocabulary and letter writing skills through the daily Literacy and reading programmes. ( Mrs Bennett)

Participating and Contributing- Inside Games.
I am learning how to play animal dominoes with Alex. Mrs Bennett showed us how to play. (Sean) I showed Sean and Alex how to play animal dominoes. I then played a game with them to reinforce the skills learnt. They were then able to play several games together independently participating and contributing. Then they moved onto another game. Comic Life
I made a comic life with my learning buddy Tamara. We took photos and she showed me how to put the words on but she wrote them.( Sean) I monitored them to see that Tamara was working well with Sean. She was showing him how to do things and got him to try and put the photos in the comic life. He found the comic life difficult but with reinforcement and practise he should pick up and understand the concepts and become independent at it in time ( Mrs Bennett)

Maths Learning
I can use the Maths apps by myself now. I know most of the shapes and colours and can match them. (Sean) Sean knows all his colours and nearly all his shapes and can count up to 20. I assisted him by telling him the names of the concepts he did not know and prompted him to name the things that he did know. I reinforced him by praising his attempts and guided him with next steps on how to use several Maths learning apps. ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
Mrs Bennett videoed me.I talked about what we had learnt about Inquiry. It was about Turanagawaewae and that means our place to stand.(Sean) Sean was able to talk about the things that were special about our school. He could ask and answer a question about Inquiry so he was on the Unistructural level on the Inquiry solo taxonomy. (Mrs Bennett)

Flax Rock
I assisted Sean with the rope to climb the wall at Flax Rock. He was hesitant, at first, with encouragement and egging on he tried hard and was proud of his achievements. He will give things a go if he feels supported.( Mrs Bennett)
The Bike Track
After lots of practise and support from me and the children Sean has moved from riding on a bike with trainer wheels, when he first started school in February, to riding on the track and as this video shows confidently going around the whole PUMP track, as was his goal. ( Mrs Bennett)

Maths on the ipad
I am learning to do lots of new things on the ipads. I can do some Maths on it by myself. I am going to do other things too.( Sean) I worked with Sean to show him how to use the learning apps on the ipad. He is now able to use some of them independently and some with his buddy or with guidance ( Mrs Bennett)
Book Creator 22/3/13
I did a Book creator with Tony from the other room. It was called the Bike Ride. Tony did lots of talking and I did some. I don't like to talk on the ipad but I will get better at it. ( Sean) I sat with them to help them make the Book Creator. Both gained confidence as they practised the skills and were able to create a simple story with words and recordings and pictures.( Mrs Bennett)

I want to learn to ride a bike over all the little hills on the bike track.

I used to ride my bike with trainer wheels. I can ride it without trainer wheels now. I can go on the bike track. I go slow. I want to go on the hills on the pump track. I tried once but I fell off. I am going to keep trying.( Sean) I will keep encouraging Sean and give him lots of opportunities to practise riding on the PUMP track. I will get him to do it stage by stage until his confidence increases. ( Mrs Bennett)
Swimming
I can go in the water now. I don't put my head under but I will soon. I can walk on the bottom.( Sean) I supported Sean and got him competing in the Hakinakina swimming sports by holding his hand as he got in and started the race. He then let go and ran to the other side of the pool. He enjoyed splashing in the small pool once his races were finished. This helped increase his confidence in the water ( Mrs Bennett)

We started Monday with a whanau, school breakfast.
Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day, that was lots of fun, with Paki Paki and Whare Tapere schools.
Wednesday we had a Nanny and Papa day .Miharo had 11 Nannys and Papas visiting
our room. Some also helped us to prepare for the Hangi on Thursday.
Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school.
The children were great with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, stalls
and other schools and people and whanau as well as Mayfair Kindegarten visiting.
We had Camberley, Hastings Intermediate and Karamu perform as well.
Henare OKeefe was DJ for part of the morning.
The hangi was a highlight with Dads, Koros and whanau helping out.
Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc.
What am amazing successful week.

Learning
I am learning to read harder books. I am up to Level 11 now.I used to be at Level 6 at the beginning of the term.
I can still write 4 sentences. I need to learn to write longer stories and do 6.
That is one of my goals.
I am learning lots of new apps to help me with my reading and writing and Maths.
I can count to over a 100 sometimes and I want to learn to add bigger numbers.
I like PMP. Whaea Diane is cool.

Miharo Learning (Literacy and Numeracy)
I am learning to spell words on the alphabet grid.
I can spell lots of words. I use them in my stories. I want to learn more words too.
I like listening to Mrs Donaldson come and read us stories.
She works in the library. (Sean)
Sean likes spelling words on the alphabet grid
and is quick at finding the letters when we play alphabet bingo.
Mrs Donaldson, the librarian comes in just before lunch Mon to Thurs to read 2 stories to the children.
Sean enjoys these and always listens well.

Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I didn't know how to skip. I can do over 10 skips now.
I want to learn to run and skip and do ski jump like Boyden. ( Sean)
The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme.
Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now.
The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping
such as ski jump and bell jump.
Most children can run around the court skipping.
One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot
in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks.
On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon
for the children and whanau.
Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon.
The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)

Goals
I am learning to read harder books

I support Sean by helping him develop his reading skills

He is in a small reading group of 3 so has a lot of individual attention.
He has moved up 2 reading levels this term so far.
Sean has also improved his counting skills in Maths.
Next Term he will move to the next classroom for Maths grouping.
Next term we will extend his writing goal to more than 4 sentences
as he can write 3 sentences already.

Walking Safely
Constable Phil is teaching us to walk safely.
We are learning to cross the road safely.
We know where to stand and know parts of the road such as the kerb and the gutter.
Duffy Role Model Assembly
We had Diana Queenin as our Duffy Role Model. She talked about Dinosaurs
and showed us fossils. She also told us how important it is to read to help our learning.
The children loved the Duffy books that they chose.
ipads
I built a school with Boyden on the ipad. It shows where we learn things.
I had to match the shapes and the size. (Sean)
As part of our Geometry unit in Maths the children had to build either a school
or a house in pairs. They had to use attributes such as shapes,pattern,direction,size and colour.
The children worked well together and enjoyed the activity. ( Mrs Bennett)

Storywriting/ Masks
Sean
My mask has eyes.
My mask is cool.
Sean selected the mask on the ipad that he wanted to have a photo with.
He wrote about it and we published his caption
and put the pictures on the classroom wall.
The objective was to stimulate the children's imaginations.
I encouraged him to think about what mask looked bright and scary.
He liked the eyes on this mask best.

Storywriting
I wrote a story about Harold in the truck.
I spelt some of the words myself and used the dictionary too.
I am getting better at writing stories and I want to learn to write
4 sentences now.(Sean)
I encouraged Sean to spell some of his own words.
He knew quite a few and I helped him with truck.
He got Harold and Life Education from the Modelling book.
He attempted giraffe by himself.
When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great"
words that they have attempted well or spelt or located for themselves. (Mrs Bennett)
Life Education
I liked Harold the puppet. We learnt about VIP and healthy food.
I made the light go on Tam.
It was her puku. Whaea Anne said I was magic.
Harold was really a puppet. ( Kauri)
The children all enjoyed the Life Education Trust visit with Whaea Anne.
We studied VIP ( Very Important Person), which we talk about in class
as we have a VIP each week.
We also learnt about healthy food and the important things that we must do to keep our bodies healthy.
Two weeks later the children are still able to name and discuss what we talked about. ( Mrs Bennett).
School Swimming Sports
I liked the school swimming sports. We had races and I can put my head under now.
I can kick a little bit with a flutter-board now. (Sean)
I took daily swimming lessons with the children and taught them water confidence.
All children could get in and put their head under.
Some could sit on the bottom. Most can now kick with a flutter-board.
All can blow bubbles and kick at the side of the pool.
It has been rewarding to see how much the class has increased in water confidnce and skills.
I have assessed the children according to the Swim Safe evaluation sheet. ( Mrs Bennett)

Swimming
I can put my head under the water sometimes now. I can walk with a flutter-board across the pool.
I want to learn to kick with one.(Sean)
Sean rarely brings his togs and is not confident in the water.
Last season he would not even go in beyond sitting on the side or the steps.
He has developed a little more confidence and I am encouraging him to
extend his skills and confidence further.

Bike Track
I can ride fast on a bike now around the track.
I can also go on the PUMP track slowly round the low hills.
I want to get better at that.( Sean)
I give Sean lots of opportunities to practise his skills.
He needs lots of encouragement on the PUMP track , as he can lack confidence.
He is a lot better now though ( Mrs Bennett)
Sue Putt Dental Therapist
Nurse Sue came to show us how to clean our teeth with some big teeth and a big toothbrush.
She also brought us all a free toothbrush and some tooth paste for us to clean our teeth
after lunch each day.
Its called the "Brush In" programme in schools.

Activities
We have had a busy 2 months. We have had a Biathlon where we ran and biked.We have started Milk in Schools. It is yummy.
The whole school went in the Kapa Haka festival.
It was fun when we went to Beach Education.
We all loved swimming in the sea and playing in the sand on the beach.
We have been talking about Pay it Forward in Inquiry.
Room 2 have been helping our whanau by being nice and doing things for them.
Our Christmas party in Room 2 was the best fun.
We played games and had presents and lots of yummy party food.
Khani won the pass the parcel.

Preschool Tuakana- teina
We love to have the Preschool visit us . They have a story with us and we play together.
We help them with things and show them where things are.
They like coming to see us all in Room 2 as well.
PMP
We have Diane come and take PMP with us. She is from Flax Rock.
We have fun and learn lots of different ways to move with our bodies.
We get fit too.
I like doing all the exercises best.
Ronald McDonald
Ronald McDonald came to talk to us about road safety.
We knew the song about Stop Look and Listen as we had learnt that in class with Mrs Bennett.
Ronald McDonald was funny. He lost his sock . We had to help him find it.
He made Mrs Bennett disappear and then come back again but she was really just behind the screen.
She jumped out and gave us a surprise.
I laughed at Ronald McDonald and Mrs Bennett.

Discovery Making Poi T3
I am making poi. Mrs Bennett helped me do it.
I sang a song. (Sean)
I assisted Sean by first showing him how to make the poi,
by putting newspaper into a plastic bag.
I had to show him how to screw the newspaper up into a ball
as he had put too much in the bag at first.
I then showed him what length to cut the wool.
I helped him tie it. He then sang E Rere taku poi
in time to the music with the other children.
Sean was using his thinking and problem solving skills
as well as developing his hand eye co-ordination skills.

Dynamo DukeboxI loved doing the Rock and Roll best.
Kauri was my partner. It was cool.

The tamariki were amazing. They danced and sang their way through
nearly an hour of music from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.
Even the teachers line danced to Achy Breaky Heart and
were zombies to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

They did I love Rock and Roll. The lion Sleeps Tonight

Matariki 1/7/13- 5/7/13
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school.
We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast.
Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school.
That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday.
Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school.
The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls
and other schools and people and whanau visiting.
We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers.
Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc.
The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with
serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc.

When questioned he found it difficult to extend his story.

Participating and Contributing- Inside Games.I am learning how to play animal dominoes with Alex. Mrs Bennett showed us how to play. (Sean)
I showed Sean and Alex how to play animal dominoes. I then played a game with them to reinforce the skills learnt.
They were then able to play several games together independently participating and contributing.
Then they moved onto another game. ( Mrs Bennett)
Comic Life
I made a comic life with my learning buddy Tamara.
We took photos and she showed me how to put the words on but she wrote them.( Sean)
I monitored them to see that Tamara was working well with Sean.
She was showing him how to do things and got him to try and put the photos in the comic life.
He found the comic life difficult but with reinforcement and practise he should pick up and understand the concepts
and become independent at it in time ( Mrs Bennett)

Maths Learning
I can use the Maths apps by myself now.
I know most of the shapes and colours and can match them. (Sean)
Sean knows all his colours and nearly all his shapes and can count up to 20.
I assisted him by telling him the names of the concepts he did not know and prompted him to
name the things that he did know. I reinforced him by praising his attempts and guided him with next steps
on how to use several Maths learning apps. ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
Mrs Bennett videoed me.I talked about what we had learnt about Inquiry.
It was about Turanagawaewae and that means our place to stand.(Sean)
Sean was able to talk about the things that were special about our school.
He could ask and answer a question about Inquiry so he was on the Unistructural level
on the Inquiry solo taxonomy. (Mrs Bennett)

Flax Rock
I assisted Sean with the rope to climb the wall at Flax Rock.
He was hesitant, at first, with encouragement and egging on he tried hard and was proud of his achievements.
He will give things a go if he feels supported.( Mrs Bennett)
The Bike Track
After lots of practise and support from me and the children Sean has moved from riding on a bike with trainer wheels, when he first
started school in February, to riding on the track and as this video shows confidently going around the whole PUMP track, as was his goal. ( Mrs Bennett)

Maths on the ipad
I am learning to do lots of new things on the ipads.
I can do some Maths on it by myself.

Book Creator 22/3/13
I did a Book creator with Tony from the other room.
It was called the Bike Ride.
Tony did lots of talking and I did some.
I don't like to talk on the ipad but I will get better at it. ( Sean)
I sat with them to help them make the Book Creator. Both gained confidence as they practised the skills
and were able to create a simple story with words and recordings and pictures.( Mrs Bennett)

My Goals for 2013
I want to learn to ride a bike over all the little hills on the bike track.Videos
The Bike Track
I used to ride my bike with trainer wheels.
I can ride it without trainer wheels now.
I can go on the bike track.
I go slow.
I want to go on the hills on the pump track.
I tried once but I fell off.
I am going to keep trying.( Sean)
I will keep encouraging Sean and give him lots of opportunities to practise riding on the PUMP track.

Swimming
I can go in the water now.
I don't put my head under but I will soon.

I supported Sean and got him competing in the Hakinakina swimming sports by holding his hand as he got in and started the race.
He then let go and ran to the other side of the pool.
He enjoyed splashing in the small pool once his races were finished. This helped increase his confidence in the water ( Mrs Bennett)
